Reasons For Insomnia

There are most unusual reasons for insomnia ranging based on what i read in psychological reasons to simple aches and pains. The causes are so varied that without consulting a doctor it may be difficult for you to ascertain precisely how the cause may be. 1. Mental conditions – These include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). These above listed conditions can be categorized as mental illnesses or disorders, but the mental condition that could cause insomnia does not need to be that severe. Emotional states that we have all experienced like: stress, mental tension, fear and basic anxiety can all lead to insomnia.

2. Drugs – This cause makes a lot of sense. Anything that you put in your body that stimulates the brain can have an adverse effect on your sleep schedule. I’m sure you have experienced a night when you drank one too many cups of coffee and had trouble falling asleep. Caffeine is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to causing restless nights.     I had the same problem for months after my son was born. I just KNEW that as soon as I closed my eyes and relaxed, the boy would need me; what's the point of trying to sleep? I also feared that if I was asleep I wouldn't hear him cry. My body was on constant high alert.

    What worked for me was co-sleeping. Having my son right next to me meant that I'd be sure to hear him cry and feel him wiggle when he needed me. Listening to him breathe helped me relax like those "white noise" machines do. Many times I'd feed him and burp him, then doze off with him over my shoulder, because holding a sleeping baby is very relaxing. After a few minutes I'd half wake up, put him back in his spot, and go right back to sleep.

    My mind was also too busy to let me sleep some nights, so I started writing things down in a journal. Getting my thoughts, feelings, and worries out of my head and onto paper was a big help, too.

    Being a mom is a big change, but you'll get the hang of it eventually. Be good to yourself.

    Woa woa calm down. Okay nobody said your gonna die, sounds like you have been reading up too much of this. How about you try to relax yourself. Take a hot relaxfull bath, with some nice bubble water, dim the lights and listen to your most relaxful music. Just chill and don't think about anything. Try to just feel every bone and muscle in your body relax. Be in tune with your body. Just concetrate on relaxing, feel each muscle as it relaxes. As you relax just clear your mind and be chill. I would stay in the bath as long as an hour if you have to. Make sure when you are done you go straight to bed, keep the music on if you need. Just try to relax and don't think about anything just let your body relax once more in bed. Just get back to your relaxful state of mind that you achieved in the bath.

    Please just try to relax, you sound too tense. If your condition persist please go see a doctor, I ask you from the bottom of my heart.

    I also think this is an interesting question! My theory is that no, they didn't suffer from as many psychological problems as we do today, because so much of their effort was in finding food and just staying alive. Life was so much more difficult because of physical hardships. Plus they were much more active, and consistent physical exercise can help keep our minds healthy.

    I think for those of us who don't have to worry about things like food and shelter create anxiety and worry in other areas.

    That happened to me too, for two nights I was wide awake, and didn't even get more than 2 hours of sleep, but now I'm getting my usual 8 hours. Melatolin only worked sometimes for me. It is a natural sleeping remedy. It worked 1/3 times I took it. Don't read an enthralling novel before you sleep, and don't exercise 3 hours before you plan to go to sleep. It takes me an hour to fall asleep, so don't be worried if it takes you longer than most people to fall asleep.

    I couldnt sleep in my first trimester because of morning sickness. I was vomitting every night! But dont worry, things will get better when you reach your second trimester. Cherish that time because things will be worse in your third trimester, and much more worse after the baby comes out. =)

    Obvously this isn't a great fix, but I'm kinda going through something similar right now. I just cannot sleep, I try and I try, usually I just stay up late watching friends after hours of trying to go to sleep–sometimes it's 4 or 5 O'clock in the morning before I finally nod off. I have tried tylonal pm and it helps. I've actually stopped taking it over the past few weeks and my insomnia seems to be getting worse so tonight I'm going to take it again. I can tell you it is not fun staying up, I'm misreable trying to just fall asleep. So, if you guys are like me, you have no health insurance or even if you do and you want to try to get an over the counter solution…try tylonal pm or the generic equalivalent to it. I promise it should help.
